Although not many can define it exactly, the metaverse has already found space in our dictionaries. And it will change not only the way we work, but the jobs we know about.
By 2030, there should already be 11 new occupations, stemming from the metaverse, estimates Adecco, a European human resources company. The metaverse, and the way technologies are combined, will allow jobs that require a physical presence in the office — such as customer service — to be done remotely.

“Many of the new jobs that will emerge as the metaverse transforms require skills like coding, but there are other professions that replicate existing jobs. The way we shop, eat, or wear will also emerge with the end of the boundaries between humans and avatars. So companies need to quickly design strategies. Responsive to this new world. Thinking about and implementing new skills, onboarding and rehabilitation plans will be essential. Change always comes along with opportunity,” the HR specialist argues, in a statement.
All these changes have proven to be fertile ground for the emergence of new jobs, which would have been unimaginable a few years ago. And the opportunities are huge. These are the 11 examples highlighted by Adecco Portugal, which will be “in high demand” in 2030.
1. Designers clothes for the avatar
If the metaverse allows us to continue to exist as avatars, coexisting in parallel realities, someone is going to have to clothe us. And that person will be the avatar’s clothing designer.
2. Data Hunters
Data is like “21st century gold,” and its importance is even greater in metaverse. “To ensure the ownership of all your data, data hunters arrive, who will scour the virtual world in search of your personal information. These hunters must be specialists in legal cases and data mining,” explains Adecco.
3. Meet Medical
In theory, our bio and physical data will be available on our avatars. This possibility would allow health professionals, such as physicians, to remotely perform diagnostics and tests, as well as potential treatments.
4. Metaverse Architects
Interaction and mobility are critical factors for metaverses. In this sense, constructs—which can be of objects, places, or experiences—must be developed to make metaphysics a reality.
5. Event managers in the metaverse
Concerts, exhibitions and conferences have already been held in Metaverse. A trend that will continue to grow depending on the recruiter. For this very reason, managers and event coordinators who understand this new reality will be in great demand.
9. Hardware builder
Cameras, microphones, sensors, headphones… In the metaverse, hardware will be as essential as programming. To respond to this new need, someone needs to create these tools.
10. Creator of the worlds
“The name of this new business can be both cool and terrifying at the same time. A world creator in the metaverse will be similar to a video game programmer, but with higher responsibilities.” Knowing how to think about the future will be key to this role, as well as essential to consider all the social impacts and possibilities this new world will bring.
11. Ad blockers
“With your virtual and physical selves so close together, advertisers will want to achieve their goal with targeted and permanent ads. Thus, virtual ad blockers will be necessary to escape this attack,” concludes Adecco.
