Criminals exploited OpenSea’s stolen monkey policy to sell Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs to collectors. The prominent bearer said it happened to him twice in one week.
OpenSea is under fire from some Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFTs holders, as bad actors exploit the platform’s politics. Franklin, BAYC’s sixth-largest owner, tweeted Monday that someone took advantage of a stolen monkey policy to sell his group’s offering. This is the second time this has happened this week alone.
The attacker exploited the policy to make a sale after it had already been marked “Under Review” for suspicious activity. Franklin said they used advanced mail-order functionality to sukuk and sell NFTs to it.
The collector had already asked OpenSea last Friday (20) to amend the stolen monkeys policy, which he called a failure. On that occasion a monkey was sold for 65 WETH. He added that “It’s sad and it delays everything. It doesn’t help anyone.”
OpenSea has yet to respond to Franklin’s claims, but the development is gaining interest from the NFT community. Critics said the NFT market hasn’t done much with politics and that there has been little success on its part when it comes to catching stolen bored monkeys.
The action against OpenSea was dismissed by Justice
Despite the issues surrounding Bored Apes, OpenSea received some positive news last week. A Nevada judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed against marketplace owner Yoga Labs, LooksRare and BAYC. The suit alleged that the three parties failed to properly handle the theft of NFTs from the group.
The dismissal of the case is good news, though there are many other lawsuits going on. Yoga Labs, in particular, has seen several lawsuits filed against it. In December, the company faced a lawsuit by celebrities promoting NFTs. The company also faced a lawsuit over the “fraudulent promotion” of BAYC and ApeCoin.

The size of the new pool exceeds 16,500 Ethereum
The BAYC ecosystem has seen an exponential increase in price and exposure following the launch of Sewer Pass, an NFT pool that gives access to a game. The sewer corridor launched on Wednesday (18th) and has already surpassed 16,500 ETH in volume. The minimum price of the token is 1.81 ETH (about $2,959 at current prices).
The game itself is called Dookey Dash, and it’s an endless runner game available through February 8th. Players can earn a new energy source, and BAYC has hinted that 2023 will have more discoveries.
