Four decades after his death – which was completed on Friday – Garrincha should finally get a space that matches his size in football. The Botafogo Museum, under development and set to open in December, will have the eternal number 7 jersey as a kind of host. Not only because it will be at the entrance through a statue. But also for being the only player who has his own section.
Botafogo’s great players will be venerated at a dedicated pavilion called the Football League. Garrincha will be a part of it and will also have an exclusive one: Alegria do Povo.
“I’ve always believed that memory is not what reminds us. It’s what we don’t want to forget. And we don’t want to forget Garrincha, despite all its symbolism. He was more than just a footballer. It’s a very rich personality. Says architect Ricardo Masiera, Curator and Curator of the Museum of Botafogo, which will occupy the headquarters of General Severiano, “It moves between semi-Greek tragedy and comedy.”
Developed by Mude, who has done the same work for River Plate, Boca Juniors, Benfica and Juventus, the Alvinegro Museum will have an immersion and interaction proposition. So, there will be a strong technology component. In the Garrincha Pavilion, a semicircular panel will display the photos and testimonies. More than following a timeline, the idea is to treat him in a playful way, incorporating not only his professional life, but also the high cultural output about him.
– Everything available in text, sound and image about Garrincha will be reproduced – the moderator advances.
But it is in dribbling that the greatest moment of interaction will occur. Visitors will be challenged to dribble like a number 7, and a technique will evaluate the performance.
– I can tell you that it will be very difficult to get it, – reveals Massiera. – We treat Garrincha’s quirks, ginga, as an object of art in the purest essence of aesthetic manifestation.
Even before the museum opens, Garrincha’s elusiveness will be treated as art. Through NFT technology, which guarantees the authenticity and uniqueness of the digital work, Botafogo will sell the bids in which the right wing bends over its opponents.
The amount has not been closed yet, because it involves negotiations. But they would be quirks considered ingenious. against Botafogo’s rivals Flamengo, Vasco and Fluminense; And the Brazilian national team.
This is one of the ways found to complete museum funding. Much of the necessary funding will come from Tim’s phone company via the Culture Incentives Act. According to Dorcio Melo, President of the Association, the complementary fundraising strategy has been fully decided.
In addition to the NFTs, there will be a crowdfunding campaign. Donors have the right to put their name on one of the 1942 stars hanging inside the museum. The number is a reference to the year of the merger of the two clubs which led to the emergence of Botafogo de Futebol y Regatas. In another activity, seven pots displayed at the entrance to the museum will be sponsored.
– They are the Cariocas national team in 1962, 1968 and 1989, the Brazilians in 1968 and 1995 and the CONMEBOL Cup and Teresa Herrera. “I sponsored one myself,” says Dorcisio.
By the way, at the entrance, the first reference will be to jersey number 7: Garrincha with 2.2-meter wingspan designed by Argentine artist Daniel Brandimarti. Instead of the traditional bronze statue, the idea is for a carnival artist (not yet to be determined) to take it upon himself to make the drawing out of paper. Since the work will start only after the carnival, the opening is scheduled for the middle of the year, before the museum itself.
– The carnival is also the joy of the people – Ricardo Massiera compares.
