In the same year, the number of bankers and investment firm executives receiving more than €1 million increased by 41.5% – from 1,383 in 2020 to 1,957 in 2021.

“This is the highest value since EBA began accounting data in 2010,” it can read on that organization’s website.

The EBA explains that the increase is linked to the “good overall performance of the organisations, particularly in investment banking, ‘trade’ and sales”, as well as continued relocation of staff from the UK to the EU and a general increase in wages.
