Noted whistleblower Edward Snowden and political activist Daniel Ellsberg have collaborated on an Ethereum-based NFT artwork, which will be auctioned to help fund their respective cases.
Snowden, a former NSA agent who became famous for revealing NSA secrets and documents in 2013, is currently in asylum outside the United States.
Snowden and Ellsberg – both of whom sit on the foundation’s board of directors – had the idea to co-create a piece in honor of the release of the Pentagon Papers in 1971.
PleasrDAO will produce the auction artwork and documentary clips.
“We were working on a Web3 auction house, and this piece was a perfect fit for the opening episode,” said Eberly.
PleasrDAO was initially formed to buy NFT. PleasrDAO has won the NFT artwork auction created by Snowden with a winning bid of $5.4 million in ETH.
At the time, the organization said it had bid for NFTs to support the concept of transparency, saying Snowden had changed the rules of the game to this particular model.
In October 2021, PleasrDAO purchased Wu-Tang Clan’s 2015 solo album for $4 million.
After Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, PleasrDAO members banded together to form the Ukrainian DAO, which has raised millions in cryptocurrency to fund donations.
